On 16 September, Tartu Art Museum will open the exhibition “Visual Arts in Tartu in the 1960s”. The impetus for this exhibition is the role played by Tartu as the capital of Estonian painting up until the end of the 1960s, when people started talking about the emergence of a new generation of young painters in Tallinn. During this decade, people travelled to Tartu to visit the annual exhibitions of Tartu art, which had been held since 1955, or other solo and group exhibitions organised by the Tartu Art Museum. The red brick building at Vallikraavi 14, which housed the art museum from the end of 1945 to 2018, was the first destination for art lovers in the city, but exhibitions of contemporary art and solo exhibitions were increasingly also on display at the Tartu Artists’ House (currently the Tartu Art House) which was built in 1959.

On Wednesday, September 6 at 18.00, Keiu Maasik’s exhibition Meadows of Change, A Place Called Home will open in Hobusepea gallery. The exhibition will be open until October 2, 2023. "For the past few years, I had buried myself in the world of computer games and preferred to spend my free time in virtuality. It seemed to be an acceptable thought exercise that in the future human life will move to the virtual world. One of the games I immersed myself in for several months was Red Dead Redemption 2. I felt like there was no other place I'd rather be than in the world of RDR2. The game takes place in 1899 in America. The story follows the ventures of a gang of outlaws at a time when the Wild West is fading and civilization is encroaching. Their time is coming to an end and fear is in the air ahead of changes bound to arrive.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of the exhibition The Art of Adapting on Thursday, 14 September at 6.30 pm in the Kadriorg Art Museum. At the opening, at 7.30 pm, Johhan Rosenberg will present his site-specific performance “Adapting to 360°”. Rosenberg’s sculptural performance is rooted in the core of a myth. Before the audience’s eyes, the legends of Ovid’s Metamorphoses from the Kadriorg Palace ceiling painting will come to life.   The exhibition observes the approaches of contemporary artists to nature appreciation and the de-aestheticising of nature, rooted in ecological aesthetics and ecofeminism. The exhibition displays works by critical contemporary artists and works from the collections of the Art Museum of Estonia.   The exhibition will remain open until 3 March 2024.

The Estonian artist SOHO Fond, who resides in Bali, will open his large-scale art exhibition this Friday at 19:00 at PÕHJALA Factory. Most of the material exhibited originated from the author's art residency in Bali and arrived in Estonia as rolled canvases. Over the years, the artist has supplemented the original material, so the works have recorded the thoughts, emotions, ideas and layers of the last five years. SOHO Fond masterfully uses a wide variety of techniques when creating his works - realistic paintings, collages, mosaics, as well as techniques familiar from street art can be boldly mixed in layers on the surface of the work. The use of color and line in the artist's last creative period is strong, and the social criticism of the works is at least as bold. 

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 18.00, the co-exhibition of Kelli Gedvil & Kristen Rästas Wake Me Up When It’s All Over will open in Draakon Gallery. The exhibition will be open until September 30, 2023.  Wake Me Up When It’s All Over, the co-exhibition of Kelli Gedvili and Kristen Rästas, poetically reflects on the introverted urge to find shelter from everyday sensitivities and encapsulate in the digital world. The artists are focused on creating an atmosphere in which they explore the contemporary condition of humans living through one crisis after another.  

Sirkku Ketola performance and exhibition: A Body Called Paula GÜ Gallery, ARS Art Factory 2.09- 16.09.2023 You are invited to the opening of the SIrkku Ketola exhibition on Tuesday, 5.09 at 17:30! The opening of the exhibition is preceded by daily performance printing sessions, during which the work of the exhibition is born. Everyone is kindly invited to the performance on Saturday 2.09, Sunday 4.09, Tuesday 5.09 and Thursday 6.09 at 12:00-15:00.

On Friday, 1 September at 6 pm, Erki Kasemets and Camille Laurelli will open their duo exhibition Bricollage at Tallinn City Gallery, where material becomes art and art becomes material, and where the artists give each other futile tasks and misleading instructions. The exhibition is curated by Siim Preiman. Erki Kasemets and Camille Laurelli are artists whose lives and works are equally deeply intertwined. Their work is not determined by specific methods or finely honed techniques, but rather by a generally open and hybrid attitude towards art and their role in it. Both are fascinated by games; both are avid collectors and equally enjoy invention and mishap.

Virtual gallery post-gallery.online invited 5 artists to present their works as part of a group exhibition. Those artists are Kaisa Maasik, Mari Männa, Camille Laurelli, Laura De Jaeger and Johannes Luik. The exhibition is curated by Ian Simon Märjama ENTER THE EXHIBITION  “Anyone can confirm” takes its basis from the widespread virtual interface element called a drop menu, which can be viewed as a container or a category that is usually presented with a title or a symbol describing its contents. The user is presented with a list of options to choose from, which in turn can propagate further down into their own lists and so on. Through these avenues of choices, it is possible to navigate in and interact with digital space.

Sequences Biennial is delighted to announce the full list of participating artists for its 11th edition, which will open to the public from 13–22 October in Reykjavík, Iceland. Titled Can’t See, the Biennial explores the ever-growing threat of ecological destruction by delving into spaces that cannot be perceived by the human eye, from the depths of the sea and layers of the soil, imagining the debris of the past and visions of the future.
