On Thursday, 5th of February at 6 pm Kaido Ole’s private art collection exhibition will open at Vaal Gallery. The exhibition will remain open until 28th of February, Tue–Fri 12–6 pm and Sat 12–4 pm.
“I like art. When I was younger, art affected me more in exhibitions, because everything there was bigger and more magnificent, plus there were many works at once, and nothing else interfered. But the older I get, the more I enjoy (good) art that is displayed in the homes. Even if it isn’t the artist’s masterpiece, the effect is completely different when you see the artwork not for a few minutes, but over the course of years, as part of your own life or someone else’s.
A home is also a much more natural environment than a gallery or museum hall. I would even say that when I visit exhibitions, I mostly see the art itself, the formal aspects of the works. But after years of observing them at home, that artistic layer gradually fades. What remains, above all, is the human content. As an artist, I know that art must be made. Yet at an exhibition the viewer inevitably forms conclusions rather quickly, because one has to move on almost immediately. But at home everything is quite different. You have the luxury of getting used to artworks, even grow tired of them, and later return to the best ones for a fresh experience. Exactly like relationships between people. The longer the relationship, the more interesting and profound it becomes.
In the family circle with Kadri, our division of labor is simplified as follows: I suggest what we might own, and she has veto power – which she has used. Many works whose suitability for the home I’m unsure about have found a place on the studio walls. However, some have already ended up in storeroom as well.”
As part of the exhibition, a conversation with Kaido Ole and Eero Epner will take place on 14th of February at 4 PM.
