On 17 June at 5 PM, we warmly invite everyone to join an artist-led tour with Maria Kapajeva at Tallinn Art Hall's Lasnamäe Pavilion. The tour will be held in English and Russian, and admission is free.
In May 2026, Estonian artist Maria Kapajeva opened her largest solo exhibition to date at Tallinn Art Hall's Lasnamäe Pavilion. “I Am a Border” brings together 16 works created between 2014 and 2026, many of them produced specifically for this exhibition. Spanning photography, video, textiles and installation, the exhibition is the culmination of more than a decade of artistic research into the border as a geographical, bodily and emotional phenomenon.
Born in Narva and living in London, Kapajeva has long explored questions of identity, belonging, memory, migration and language. In “I Am a Border”, personal histories intersect with wider political and social realities, revealing how borders are not only lines on maps but also experiences that shape our bodies, relationships and sense of self.
This artist-led tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the exhibition together with Maria Kapajeva and hear firsthand about the stories, research processes and personal experiences behind the works. The artist will discuss the development of the exhibition, the themes that connect works created over the past decade, and the questions that continue to inform her practice today.
Admission is free.
