Exhibition series “Colour Go-Go!”

20.06.2022

A unique colourful and playful international exhibition series “Colour Go-Go!” is coming to Estonia! Opening on the 1st of July at 5 p.m.

This summer and early autumn brings Finnish and Estonian artists together for a trio of group exhibitions “Colour Go-Go” that take place in three quite different venues – Vana-Võromaa Museum and Art Gallery in Võru, RuutikellariGallery in Hamina and the Gallery of Tampere House, Tartu.

Amidst a difficult pandemic and many global crises, the organisers bring the “Colour Attack!” series to Estonia under the name “Colour Go-Go” - an exhibition that approaches content and form with positive, optimistic and playful attentiveness.

“Colour Go-Go” follows a straightforward playful theme associated with colour and form and asks the artists to respond directly to the context of the exhibition and venue itself. While the exhibition sets a positive and playful framework that can seem deceptively simple, it gives the artists the opportunity to engage with a range of subjects.

Universal themes associated with human relationships and stages in life rub shoulders with works that explore the cultural peculiarities of the towns and cities hosting the exhibitions, while also dealing with topical concerns such as the environment and climate emergency. The result is an exhibition that varies from painting, drawing, sculpture to installation, and that can best be described as colourful and positive.

The playful series of exhibitions has been running since 2016 and began as a Finnish-Russian artist initiative that organised exhibitions under the name “Colour Attack!”. The series has included artists from Helsinki, regional Finland and Petrozavodsk, on the shores of Lake Onega in Russian Karelia. Over the years, they have exhibited in St Petersburg (2016, 2017), Helsinki (2018), Petrozavodsk (2019) and Novgorad (2020).
