Estonian artist with Ukrainian roots Tanja Muravskaja works at KORDON as this year's invited artist. The Artist Talk with Tanja will take place on Wednesday, June 26 at 16:00 at the KORDON Art Residency Ranna 1, Kärdla. All interested are very welcome!
Tanja Muravskaja is an Estonian artist, whose work proceeds from an anlytic approach and psychological observation – be it the psychology of an individual, society, or a place. In her artworks, she tackles such topics as identity and memory, as well as relationships between society and its members. While being concentrated on photography, the medium’s qualities, and its agency in contemporary art, she creates installations that evolve into total environments and embrace the viewer. Muravskaja studied photography at the Estonian Academy of Arts and the University of Westminster. She also studied journalism at Tallinn University. Her works are represented in the collections of Art Museum of Estonia and Tartu Art Museum. Muravskaja is the winner of the Köler Prize 2018 Grand Prix at the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia. Her recent exhibitions include “Statecraft” (EMST National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens, 2022), “Politics in Art” (MOCAK the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Poland, 2022), “Art in the Comfort Zone: The 2000s in Estonian Art” (Kumu Art Museum, 2022), “Three Sisters: Tanja Muravskaja” (Tensta Konsthall, 2019); participation in biennials “Art Encounters” (Timișoara, 2019 and Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art “Somewhere in Between” (Borås Konstmuseum, 2019).
At KORDON, the artist is doing research for her new work photographing nature with medium format film camera. During the artist talk she will introduce her artistic practice and contemporary Ukrainian (photo) art.
