Exhibition of paintings by the art robot AI_NORN

30.09.2021

On Thursday, October 7th  at 17 in the Gallery of Physicum the exhibition of paintings by the art robot AI_NORN will be opened.
The exhibition remains opened up to November 2nd and is visitable from 9 to 19 on working days.

The creators of AI_NORN are Russian data scientists Nikolay Gavrilin and Anna Mischenko (Altai / Moscow). Their art robot uses for painting traditional tools such as paints, canvases, and brushes. Despite its young age (the project was started in 2019) it has already gained international attention, participating in the spring of this year in an international art fair in Dubai. The authors about their “child”:

“AI_NORN style of painting was designed as something distant from photographic repeating. Yes, we name it neuroimpressionism. Technically AI_NORN consists of a small robotic arm for large and beautiful strokes, a canvas feed platform, a webcam for colors and errors control, and a lot of code lines. Small neural networks help AI to feel free for color and technique choice. We support the union of humans and AI. AI_NORN is an assistant and not a competitor in the art field. For us, the beauty of AI art is its unpredictability. You “say” it one thing, and the result you get is something completely different! And we love it!”

Related to the exhibition Nikolay and Anna will give a talk at the seminar of data science at the UT Delta Centre (Narva mnt 18, Room 1037) on October 6th at 17-19:30.

To the participants the anti-COVID-19 regulations of University of Tartu apply, in particular the obligation to wear mask or be able to show the vaccination passport.
