FÜÜRER PRAISS 2021 award exhibiton - Johanna Sipilä and Toomas Kuusing

FÜÜRER PRAISS is an art prize awarded by the Metropol Gallery commitee since year 2016. Aim of the award is to recognize nominated artst’s efort in combining diferent parts oi art scene and celebrate their creatve work. The nominee is worthy oi creatng his/her own school oi iollowers or already has it.

Once a year, two artsts are selected to make a joint exhibiton in the gallery and collaborate in the name oi “victory”. The special prize is original works oi art created especially ior the nominees.

This year's prize will be played out as a iestve test match between Finland Setumaa and Finland, as the nominees are:

Johanna Sipilä (b. 1976) is a Finnish visual artst who, in additon to her own personal creatve work, has contributed a lot to joint artstc actvites and cooperaton oi artsts. From 2010 to 2014 she lived and worked in Tallinn. Using her contacts and vision, she organized art iestval ESTOMANIA in Helsinki, which gave many artsts the opportunity to show their work and collaborate on both sides oi the guli. In 2022, after a break, rebirth oi the iestval is planned to happen.

Toomas Kuusing (b. 1976) is a well-known Estonian graphic artst and painter who has actvely partcipated in joint periormances and illustrated books. He received his art educaton at Academia Non Grata and Estonian Academy oi Arts. Toomas Kuusing stands out with his utmost dedicaton and diligence, hes linoleum knives and brushes have created an inspiring number oi detailed and wity works oi art. In additon, he is a patriot oi his homeland Setumaa, region in south Estonia with it’s own dialect and special cultural traditons.

Award exhibiton will take place on two gallery spaces oi the Metropol house - Metropol 6 m2 and Metropol Cabinet.
Opening event includes Käpardid Puppet Theater periormance “Artsts -> Calendar 2022”, surprise internatonal musical appearances, a special FÜÜRER PRAISS 2021 winner-announcing periormance and celebraton oi 5th anniversary oi the award in iree artstc spirit.

A COVID certfcate must be presented ior entry.

The winners oi FÜÜRER PRAISS so iar have been Andrus Joonas and Vilen Künnapu (2016), Jüri Ojaver and Mari Kartau (2017), Peeter Allik and Mari Prekup (2018), Margus “Sorge” Tiitsmaa and Roi Vaara (2019). In 2020, due to COVID restrictons, the prize was not awarded.
