“Mummuistic Beach” by Ashot Jegikjan

22.08.2025

This Friday, August 22, at 17:00, Vabaduse Gallery will open the exhibition Mummuistic Beach by painter Ashot Jegikjan.

In his first solo exhibition at the Vabaduse Gallery, Ashot Jegikjan is exhibiting a wide selection of mainly oil paintings completed this year, which combine post-impressionist, abstract and expressionist imagery. The exhibition provides a good overview of the painter's philosophy and current creative state; works that have emerged under the influence of both the inner and outer worlds, combined on canvas into a unified whole.

Jegikjan says of the exhibition: Making these worlds visible is a certain inner compulsion for me as an artist. Poeticizing everyday situations and the desire to capture states and moods is inherent to me. I want to create paintings that perceive atmospheres, situations, and people in their everyday passage of time and being in the ‘here’ and ‘now’. Forgetfulness of time and the pleasure of being through the creative process of painting – these are the central concepts of my artistic self-expression.

Jegikjan calls his painting style mummuism. The artist derives this term from the round mummuisms on the canvas, round things and abstract spheres that form the content of his works. Mummuism is waves of inspiration, round objects, musical notes. Jegikjan's mummuist creation encompasses feelings, dreaminess, and creative freedom.

The artist adds: I am fascinated by contemporary art which gives me the opportunity to express my feelings and spontaneity with creative freedom. Creative inspiration reaches the canvas like a calmly flowing river. Paths find their ideas, and ideas find their paths. Therefore: Painting is a flowing river towards the love of life. It is movement. It is writing. Your own visions. It is movement within your inner life.

But life is wiser than me. And that is good. For me, painting is an opportunity to express myself on the level of poetry.. It is wonderful when ideas sprout from seeds of inspiration and fall onto the canvas, flowing like a river of music. And clouds float and float across the sky...
