Raoul Kurvitz’s personal exhibition “The Garden of Beauty without Edge and End”

31.12.2021

On December 28, Tuesday at 6PM is the opening of Raoul Kurvitz’s personal exhibition based on his latest creations “The Garden of Beauty without Edge and End”.

Beauty as a concept has been over- and underestimated throughout history, just as beauty standards have fluctuated from wall to wall. In the end, beauty is always a subjective rating: there is no universal nor godlike beauty. Ultimately, beauty is what we attribute to being universal or godlike in our current time and cultural space, or on the other hand, not at all.

However, beauty is a feeling to a certain extent. Often it’s connected to sublimity, sometimes to unavailability or negligence, but on rare times it’s even terrifying. Ultimate beauty connects it all - ultimate beauty is at the same time sublime, unavailable and terrifying, sometimes even horrifying or just scary.

That kind of beauty is without edge and end. That kind of beauty does not feel borders. It does not have fixed time nor space. It could reveal itself during the darkest ancient ritual of Summer solstice, in the light wreath of air bubbles created by the diving of an imagined catwoman, it could reveal itself in galacticas far away, in the turquoise lungs of the World Ruler, Her Innocence Dolores Dei, known from Disco Elysium, or it could be seen in the yellow plastic bag of an old man, startled by the sights described previously. Beauty is not nobody’s privilege: everybody can be beautiful, but only if they want and dare to be beautiful. Thus should everyone be able to experience beauty as a feeling in some way or another.

The Garden of Beauty without Edge and End is immeasurable, entering it is a ceremonial moment. Similarly is named an unpopular stripclub in Montmartre region, Paris, and a known erotic magazine („Le Jardin Sans Des Limites“ in French).
