Re_form_action is an insight by a group of young artists and fashion designers into the fashion system undergoing rapid changes โ a zeitgeist full of critical reflections, the final acts of old narratives and the arrival of new values. The starting point of this exhibition is the garment as a piece of clothing that conveys a feeling or a condition; that is, recording emotions, carrying and commuting narratives. Fashion as an item of clothing, a storyteller and a work of art.
Like all arts, fashion is in constant dialogue with the processes taking place in society, amplifying the emotions, events, cultural signs and the spirit of the times swirling around in there. Ecologic responsibility is self-evident in todayโs fashion and art scene, and it is well integrated into the activities of the reformactionists. The contemporary social and cultural sensibility of young fashion designers has changed the basic values underpinning their work. Through reโs, forms, and actions, the works displayed here capture their creatorsโ current dreams, central flashbacks and creative visions of the future. Depending on the artist, this sensibility may be light or dark, hopeful or dystopian.
In the past ten years, fashion in Estonia and Finland has undergone significant shifts: the return of handicrafts and the focus on sustainability, gender neutrality, body positivity, emotionality, and inclusion. Fashion has expanded from clothes to space and it can manifest itself as an action, an installation, or a sudden idea still searching for its final form. Re_form_action is testing the boundaries of fashion outside its classical garment form and seasonal trends to give the floor to personal experiences.
