On Friday, 14 November at 5:00 p.m., Lilian Mosolainen will open her solo exhibition “Carne viva” in the small gallery of the Tartu Art House.
The exhibition is motivated by existential thoughts about the living and the temporal, and the eternal and the timeless. The living and the temporal are also part of the organic system: everything that is alive turns to dust in order to be reborn.
“Carne viva” (in English: living flesh) is an intense and dramatic phrase that acknowledges the limitations of physical existence. The lack of control over the fate of one's own body can be frightening.
“‘Carne viva’ is an exhibition where I invite the viewer to pause for a moment and acknowledge the organic cyclical nature of life: birth, passion, decay and rebirth. It is my exploration of the inevitability of physicality and the spirit's quest to give love a form that transcends the boundaries of the body,” the artist explains.
Lilian Mosolainen (b. 1961) graduated from the Tartu Art School in 1980 and the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1991, specialising in painting. She has worked as a lecturer at Tallinn University (for 21 years) and the Estonian Academy of Arts (for five years) and has been teaching at the Tallinn Art School since 1994. Mosolainen has organised 34 solo exhibitions and has also participated in several group exhibitions. Her works are housed in the Tartu Art Museum, Kumu Art Museum, Margus Punabi's private collection and other collections. Since 1992, the artist has been a member of the Estonian Artists' Union and the Estonian Painters' Union.
The exhibition will be open until 14 December.
